(Day 1) Arrival On day one you will arrive at the Kotoka International Airport. A guide from Star Tours Ghana will meet you on arrival and escort you to your hotel, a beach resort in Accra. A briefing about the tour will be given at a welcoming dinner. (Day 2) Accra - Akosombo Day two is set aside to explore the Legon and Aburi botanical gardens of Accra. After exploring the magnificent gardens, we will begin the journey to a riverside retreat in Akosombo. Just before descending the mountains to Akosombo, we will stop in Agomanya to tour a bead market and factory. (Day 3) Akosombo - Liate Wote On day three we will set off for the remote village of Liate Wote. On the way you will get the opportunity to trek through remote villages, summit mounts Afadjato, and swim under Tagbo falls. After a refreshing swim under the majestic falls, we will head to the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary. At the sanctuary, you will get the chance to play with, feed, and observe monkeys in their natural environment. Once you’re through visiting with the monkeys, you’ll be able to relax and dine at a local hotel. (Day 4) Liate Wote - Kumasi On day four your hiking skills will be put to the test! We will wake up early in order to attempt the climb to Wli Falls, the highest waterfall in Western Africa. After the trek, we will visit the six Lipke Caves before heading to Kumasi. Once arriving in Kumasi, you will be able to get some much-deserved food and rest. (Day 5) Kumasi On day five, you will learn more about the Ashanti and explore a local market! We will start the day with a visit to the Manhyia Palace. The Manhyia Palace is the home of the Asantehene, the absolute monarch of the Ashanti kingdom. At the palace you’ll get the opportunity to learn first-hand about the Ashanti’s epic history. After learning about the history of the Ashanti kingdom we will visit the Okomfo Anokye Sword site. To conclude the history packed day we will travel to Lake Bosumtwi. At the lake you’ll be able to relax in nature while enjoying magnificent views. (Day 6) Kumasi On day six we will explore three unique craft villages along with the Kejetia Market. Our first stop of the day will be the Kejetia Market, the largest market in Western Africa. After exploring the Kejetia Market we will visit all three of the renowned craft villages. Our first stop will be in Pankronu, a small village famous for its pottery. Afterwards, we will head to Ahwiaa, a village with expertise in wood carvings. Finally, we will visit Ntonso, a village known for its adinkra textiles. In all of the craft villages you will have the opportunity to participate in lessons and demonstrations from the craftsmen themselves. (Day 7) Kumasi - Techiman On day seven you will get the opportunity to explore Lake Bosumtwi, the Bobiri forest, and the Bobiri butterfly reserve. We will start the day with a canoe outing on Lake Bosumtwi, a beautiful crater lake. After canoeing you’ll get the opportunity to explore the Bobiri forest. Finally, the hiking will be concluded with a trip to the butterfly reserve. The reserve is home to over 400 species of tropical butterflies. (Day 8) Techiman - Kintampo On day eight you get the opportunity to play with monkeys, see wildlife, and explore caves. We will start the day by visiting the Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary. This sanctuary is famous for its large population of mona and colobus monkeys. After you’ve spent some time getting to know the monkeys, we will head to the Tano Boase rock formation. At Tano Boase, you’ll explore sacred groves and caves where villagers sought refuge during slave raids and tribal wars. Finally, the day will be concluded with a wildlife hike where you’ll likely spot antelopes, baboons, and monkeys. (Day 9) Kintampo - Damango On day nine you will get the opportunity to swim under waterfalls and experience a canopy walkway. Our first stop will be Fuller Falls followed by the Kintampo Waterfalls and the canopy walkway above them. Day nine will be set at a very mellow pace, allowing enough time for you to swim, explore, and relax. After exploring the falls, we will continue our journey to Damongo. (Day 10) Damongo - Tamale On day ten you’ll get to experience an african safari. We will wake up bright and early at Mole National Park. From the park we will take an all terrain vehicle and begin the journey into the jungle. We will return by 8am for breakfast. After breakfast we’ll start the second safari of the day. This expedition will be on foot through the dense jungle. After an epic day exploring the jungle we will head to Tamale. In Tamale you’ll be lodged with a local host family. (Day 11) Tamale - Kariminga On day eleven you’ll get to experience life as a Tamale local. You’ll wake up in the morning with your host family. That morning you’ll have the opportunity to help them with household chores. This will include the preparation of traditional food. After your cooking lessons we will pay the village chief a visit. After the conversation, the chief and his elders will pray for us. Upon being granted the chief’s blessing we will journey down to the workplace of local women who spin cotton into ropes for traditional clothes. You’ll then have the opportunity to learn how to spin the cotton yourself. Finally, we’ll continue on to the village of Kariminga. That night you’ll participate in a traditional storytelling circle. (Day 12) Kariminga - Paga On day twelve we explore caves and pet crocodiles! Our first stop of the day will be the Tongo Caves. After exploration of the caves, we will hit the road once again. Upon our arrival in Paga we will pay a courtesy visit to the chief. After gaining the chief’s respect you’ll be able to explore the historic Pikworo Slave Market and the crocodile ponds. If you’re lucky a guide will let you pet a crocodile. After you’ve faced off with the crocodiles we’ll head to Kumasi. (Day 13) Kumasi - Dixcove On day twelve we explore the country via train. We will travel by train from Kumasi to Sekondi-Takoradi with numerous stops at villages along the way. The train ride is approximately seven hours. You’ll be able to explore towns and villages along the way while also taking in the scenery. From Sekondi-Takoradi we will continue to Dixcove by car. (Day 14) Dixcove - Cape Coast On day fourteen you’ll get the opportunity to explore two famous castles. Our first stop will be the awe-inspiring Cape Coast Castle. You’ll be met by the local guides, and taken on a tour you’ll never forget. After learning the history, the guides will set you free to explore everything from the grim dark dungeons to the magnificent cannon lined catwalks. After exploring the Cape Coast Castle, we’ll head to the Elmina Castle and to Fort Jago. At the castles you’ll once again be met by the local guides who will take you on another incredible tour! After the tour, you’ll once again have time to explore on your own. (Day 15) Cape Coast - Accra Day fifteen is departure day.
